NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SEP2020

Hello lovelies,

It sure has been a while, hasn’t it?

Nothing brings me out of semi-retirement like Fashion Month.

To be very honest, I’ve stopped recapping Fashion Month because the whole cycle felt a bit repetitive…

(…and if for me, imagine how it must feel for creatives involved)

…but this one is quite different.

Of course, so much has happened since my last post.

For an industry that is deeply rooted in “tradition,”pre-pandemic the fashion world was already going through major transformational changes.

These centred primarily around the shift away from conventional runway shows to alternative presentations, the dissolution of Mens Fashion Week and subsequent rise of mixed-gender presentations, and perhaps the most impactful, the reimagining of seasonal collections and the evolution of the fashion calendar.

And if anything, this pandemic has accelerated all of that.

So, this Fashion Month you can expect to see,

  • more digital lookbooks, especially as social distancing and venue capacity restrictions have been put in place
  • more mixed-gender collections
  • and less major names on the calendar as labels contend with production and shipping challenges (no Carolina? no Marc? no Michael? no Diane? – is it even Fashion Week? – Carolina, Michael and a few other NY based designers ended up showing after Fashion Month)

But we know that fashion is resilient. And, maybe this season, the creativity lies not in the clothing, but in connecting and displaying the clothing to the appropriate audience.

And for those opting to skip this season, it may be a good idea to reset, and rethink the “norm,” finding more suitable and, maybe more importantly, sustainable methods of production.

But let’s see who’s on the roster.

As before, Major Moments highlighted in gold – although I don’t think there are many this season.

Hyperlinks to be added as we go along.

Enjoy!

xx
