SS21; Major Moment | Tibi | LOOKBOOK

I really, really like this collection. In fact, it feels very apt for the times.

Tibi’s SS21 collection was inspired by the Great Depression, not so much in the literal 30s sense, but more so people’s attitude toward dressing for the times.

As would be expected, the mood was sombre…and fashion proved to be a helpful coping mechanism for many. And, much like now, the industry responded in two extremes – leaning heavily to the practical, and then alternatively to the fantastical, as a form of escapism.

According to Vogue, when Amy Smilovic was designing this collection, she wanted each piece to be purposeful. And in a world where sustainability is on the forefront, and dressing up seems like a distant memory, a lot of designers are putting forth collections that are both practical and versatile.

Described by Smilovic herself as “creative pragmatism,” the collection is part loungewear – think slouchy pullovers, comfy trousers and lots of mix-and-match separates – and part casually sophisticated dressing.
Of course, this is all mirrored by the collection’s easy, warm colours.

And despite the presence of more structured pieces – blazers, cropped trousers, and shirts, this relaxed feeling runs through the collection.

Sometimes I lament the fun, exciting, whimsy that fashion had in the 2000s. But I have to remind myself that, there’s a time for fun, and a time to be sensible….and maybe with everything currently going on in the world, that time is now.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!

xx
