FW18; Major Moment | Alexander Wang

It’s Thursday y’all!

And that means the weekend is almost here.

But Fashion Month continues on so there’s no rest for some!

Next up for review – Alexander Wang!

Now this designer is no stranger to the Major Moment spotlight, as he consistently produces chic, cohesive, fashion-forward collections that not only remain true to his cool, party-boy aesthetic but also push the boundary of the fashion envelope.

And for his Fall 2018 collection, Wang does just that.

Set at Condé Nast’s previous headquarters, Four Times Square, Wang presented a fun riff on the businesswoman.

And, while some reviewers found his take on corporate wear unfeasible, one has to ask if anything, it was at least authentic to the Wang brand.

Wang got his start in fashion as an intern at both Teen Vogue and Vogue.
It is said that since then he has maintained the energetic exuberance that he displays today.

So it makes perfect sense that he infuse that lively, adrenalized spirit with his workwear.

It is, in essence, Wang in a work setting.

“It felt timely to do a collection that reflects a different part of my life, everyone knows the partying me, but I actually go to work more than I party.”

Not to say that I don’t take Wang seriously, but I think that he, like most successful creatives, are able to channel a level of wit in their work.

So, apart from this play on corporate CEOs, Wang had a cool, urban, Matrix-esque vibe that ran prominently throughout the collection.

And in a time when women want to feel especially empowered – with the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements – and black is becoming such a symbolic color, the collection couldn’t feel more appropriate.

It is, albeit, a more serious Wang collection – as compared to those past – but what exactly is a “serious” Wang collection?

If anything, this designer shows us that work and play really can go hand-in-hand.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!

xx
