SS18; Major Moment | Alexander McQueen

The first of the Paris reviews!

And of course, we start off with the wonderfully dramatic Alexander McQueen show.

What is interesting about this label is the fact that it is the epitome of an English brand, but has decided to show on the Paris roster, which has an appreciation for the more refined and elegant side of design.

So, Sarah Burton does just that and brings that British polish to the French runways.

This season she took her team on a trip to the Great Dixter house in East Sussex.

And, although the house itself is magnificent, built in 1910-1912, it really is the garden, with its superb and sophisticated plantsmanship that was of interest to the creatives.

I mean, what could be more British than a garden??

Perhaps one on a rainy day?

And thus, the narrative for the SS18 show was born.

The runway – lined with archways draped with embroideries; the models [including fellow Trini Naomi Chin Wing] – with their drenched hair and slouchy, mud-appropriate boots, paraded the frilly, deconstructed fashions in front of those in attendance.

There were quilted, patchworked fabrics – even some utilitarian denim – done in tops and coats and dresses, all stylized for the stomping-through-the-rain, get-sh*t-done, girl-on-the-go that McQueen usually designs for.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!
