SS18; Major Moment | Prabal Gurung

Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung has been quite provocative lately.

His last few seasons have been politically charged, which isn’t a surprise given the climate in the U.S. lately.

Designers like Gurung – who are not native to America – have used their highly visible platform to comment on the goings-on.

As a result, Gurung’s SS18 show was ultra-inclusive, pro-change and diverse, featuring models of all shapes, sizes and celebrity statuses (i.e. the Hadid sisters).

For this season, the designer revisited his cutouts trimmed with buttons, of course maintaining the ultra-femininity and fragility that his brand has become known for.

However, for Spring he has paired this aesthetic with bright colors – yellows, blues, greens – in the form of various knits and plastics.

Spring is all about color, florals, and fun prints and Gurung definitely employed all of the above.

Beautiful asymmetrically draped silk fabrics and ruffled blouses added romance to the collection, which contrasted the hardness and rigidity of some pieces.

However, the focal point of this collection wasn’t meant to be romantic, but in fact to celebrate the strength of women.

But sometimes sexiness and strength go hand in hand as the cutouts and high slits add pops of skin that keep Gurung’s girl fresh and modern.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!
