SS18; Major Moment | Marc Jacobs

Alright y’all, let’s talk Jacobs….

I mean not that there is much to talk about; the clothes speak for themselves!

And Mr. Marc Jacobs seems to think so as well!

…the sound of silence…

The show was silent.

Attendees sat, their chairs lining the room, as they quietly watched as 56 models clinked their shoes against the old wooden floorboards of the Park Avenue Armory in New York.

And then, for the finale, the hoard of models re-emerged, this time to the crescendoing of the orchestral aria from the 1981 French thriller Diva.

There was a joy in this collection; a tropical explosion – perfect to end the New York roster of shows!

And while Jacobs’ show wasn’t particularly inspired by any one location, the accompanying notes stated “the re-imagining of seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City.”

And reimagined he did!

…somewhere beyond…

“During the last few months, while friends vacationed, we took a holiday in our heads and went somewhere, twisting fantasy into reality through exaggerated, decadent and exotic sportswear silhouettes.”

Jacobs has experienced major success over the past twenty-five years, as he played with cool, urban shapes and silhouettes.

These signatures were revisited, this time in hyper-pigmented hues of pinks and yellows – major trends for SS17 that seem to be sticking around – as well as oranges and greens, the up-and-coming colors of the season.

There also was a lot of sparkle.

Beaded trims, sequins, and exaggerated floral and marble prints – all done in a series of wide-leg trousers, boxy jackets, beautifully draped tops, and athletic jumpsuits.

And of course, the accessories!

Everyone was a-buzz about the plethora of Stephen Jones-designed turbans, reminiscent of brand muses Kate Moss and Sophia Coppola.

But it was also the slew of sporty and practical fanny packs that added a series of layers to the already glamorous show.

Jacobs has always been in touch with the socially relevant trends, and this collection proves that.

A gorgeous mix of the label’s staple pieces, updated with modern touches and the urban and exotic.

It is no wonder the designer is as decorated – no pun intended – as he is.

Jacobs inspired us all to travel [as editors, buyers and stylists prepared to jet off to London].

No one knows where his girl is going, but it is clear she is going somewhere…and somewhere fabulous!

See the rest of the collection here!

Enjoy!
