FW17; Major Moment | Balenciaga
Over at Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia set his sights on “modern sophistication.”
He sought to revamp classic Cristobal looks, imbuing them with the ease and coolness of today’s fashionistas.
If it’s attitude Gvasalia wanted to capture, it’s attitude he got!
From the clean lines and sharp silhouettes, this season’s Balenciaga girl is effortlessly chic.
Inspired by photographs from the house archives, Gvasalia sent out a slew of models draped in clothing askew, reminiscent of the glamorous manner in which models of the past clutched their clothing during fittings.
Experimental and clever in construction, the coats can be worn as presented – for the risk taker – and normally, for a more conservative dresser.
It takes a special type of mind – call it creative, call it intellectual – that can synthesize the [seemingly] most random of things.
That being said, Gvasalia somehow managed to take this starting point and carry the presentation into the automotive world. How? One can only guess.
Known for his talent of repurposing items, found himself creating pencil skirts from car mats, wing-mirror inspired bags and necklaces laden with keys.
And then again, Bernie Sanders was added to the mix??
The high point of the show was obviously the couture.
Nine spectacular couture gowns were presented, reimagined and updated, issued in honor of the label’s 100th anniversary.
Of course this type of drama is always welcome…

Enjoy!
