FW17; Major Moment | Moschino

Jeremy Scott is a creative genius.

His take on fashion is so fresh and whimsical.

If one looks at fashion as art and the way that art offers social commentary, one can see Scott’s brilliance and mastery of his craft.

To have such a vivid imagination to churn out collections inspired by big brands such as McDonalds, Coca Cola, Paper Dolls and even Barbie, Scott definitely makes striking statements about our role in the commoditization of our planet.

This season the creative director looked at, not only the product, but the packaging.

“…approximately 25 million tons of cardboard are discarded each year.”

Let that sink in.

The message was one of recycling – in our consumption of goods; inclusive of clothing.

And while the show began with witty plays on parcels and product packaging – featuring barcodes, ‘Fragile,’ and ‘Caution’ labels – the idea of reusing materials ran throughout.

Scott unpacked the metaphoric boxes to reveal looks inspired by vintage Moschino editorials “ripped from the pages of Vogue.”

Reviewers noted the cleverness in this, a pun on the logo-mania taking over the industry – as if Scott was saying, “if you can’t buy the real thing, buy the magazine, and approximate the look yourself.”

Couture is an attitude. It’s not a price point.”

Of course in true Scott fashion, imagination ran free at the culmination of the show with extravagant looks inspired by debris?!?

Attendees saw fun takes on garbage couture, dresses reminiscent of discarded items – lamps, trash bags, shower curtains and watches.

Scott is always that perfect balance between provocative and fun which, in a sea of what can be heavily moody and political fashion, is a much needed breath of fresh air.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!
