*(Lost) Tribe Tuesday : The LOOK

Hello my loves,

I’m finding myself playing catch up because it’s a pretty hectic season in my life…

Fashion Week, Award Season and Trinidad Carnival all at once?! Ay caramba.

So, between prepping my fashion week recaps – coming soon😉 – reviewing red carpets, intense partying and readying myself for two days of parading drunk shirtless in the sun, there is barely anytime to drink breathe…

Anyway, it’s not often that I share about Trinidad on the blog – but, it’s not from lack of wanting to!

Since I’ve returned from abroad, I’m looking at the country through fresh eyes…and to be honest, it’s taken a while for me to get reacquainted with home (which hasn’t been home for six years).

But, have no fear, over the next few months I’m sure you’ll begin to see more of the Caribbean as a whole, this beautiful island, and it’s rich culture.

And talk about rich?!

Carnival in itself is such an embodiment of what it is to be Trini; vibrant, colorful and expressive – sometimes I think we as Trinbagonians need to remind ourselves of that…

Since moving back home, I’ve had the luxury of working very closely with The Lost Tribe, one of Trinidad’s newer Carnival bands.

However, despite The Lost Tribe being a young player in an already saturated industry, it has managed to differentiate itself by not only promoting a revival of our local culture, but also by engaging with other artistic communities – dancers, musicians, videographers etc.

Of it’s many – and I mean MANY- undertakings, I was fortunate enough to assist with the production of their annual lookbook – The Look – whereby local makeup artists create high impact makeup looks inspired by the costumes.

This year however, the project had an added element – a live release of the images at a local lounge, in partnership with Revlon and local beauty brand Immortelle Beauty, with live demos being done by the MUAs.

Amazing team of talented MUAs.

Truth be told, events like this – which reignite a support for Trinidad’s creatives – put The Lost Tribe in a class of it’s own.

But enough talking, for now enjoy a celebration of creativity, artistry and local [Trini] talent.

More to come… 😉

xx
