Spring 2023 Couture; Major Moment | Fendi
Hello lovelies!
It certainly has been a while since I’ve done one of these – but it is the first (and only LOL) Major Moment of the Spring 2023 Couture Collections.
Of course, couture in general is magnificently impressive, and the amount of work and detailed craftsmanship that goes into each look, in general, should be applauded. However, as spectacular as they all are, I don’t always see the need to review the collections. Sometimes the clothing speaks for itself, and that’s enough.
But then sometimes, the collections *NEED* to be spoken about…
Case. In. Point.
Of the Spring 2023 Couture Collection, Kim Jones – Creative Director of the house – said, “I want to do lightness because, for me, couture always seems quite staid and heavy…I wanted a floatiness. Elegant but youthful.”
And that he did.
Jones is thinking long-term – as many houses need to these days – and describes this collection as a fluid continuation of his previous collection – and a direct response to his clients’ request for evening wear.
He noted that he thought a lot about modern times, modern stresses and modern problem-solving and that it was really important for “[the clients] to feel really good and for them to feel comfortable.”
His solution? A sense of underwear as evening wear; “lingerie as an underpinning.”
And so, he created slinky, barely-there dresses, some draped with cashmere coats, and others lined with lace, and decorated with delicate hand-painted flowers.
“It’s a celebration of the ateliers and the craftspeople, the intense work and emotional commitment that exists for both maker and wearer, and how the intimate traditions of couture are both living and breathing.”
Couture at its finest.
See the rest of the collection here.
Enjoy!
