SS18; Major Moment | Sacai
Sacai-ify:
from luxury brand SACAI, a verb (used with object)
(1) to combine two or more different garments into one by hybridizing.
(2) to make (something familiar, normal, every day) unfamiliar, unusual, extraordinary.
This isn’t the first time that I’ve featured this brand on the blog, but it is the first time I’m reviewing it!
As a result, it’s important to first delve into the core of the brand.
Sacai was established by Chitose Abe in 1999 after eight years of working with the Junya Watanabe collection at Comme des Garcons.
Abe’s interest is in creating clothes that are entirely unique and timeless, innovative and experimental. To Abe, who is influenced by observing her surroundings and functions of daily life, the Sacai collection has a distinctive elegance that is based on renderings and transformations of basic and classical items.
As a result, the label is known not only for its feminine designs but also it’s experimental, juxtaposed and layered nature.
This collection is no different.
We see Abe’s expertise in creating complicated-but-simple-looking garments that are ultra-versatile with many different ways to style the same piece.
Reviewers have noted that this keeps consistency within the brand, but also ensures that each collection is [or at least looks] vastly different from the one before.
Anyway, it’s a fabulous collection featuring rich, vibrant colors – and a touch of intellect.
The clothing felt fresh and feel-good, lightness and optimism being common themes for the 2018 collections.
And if it’s anything that Abe wanted to convert was that “You don’t have to go to the end of the world to get inspired,” she said. “It’s all around you.”
See the rest of the collection here.
Enjoy!
xx
