SS18; Major Moment | Versace
Y’all knew it was coming…
…it just took a while to get here.
This year marked the 20th anniversary since the death of Gianni Versace.
And, as a wonderful tribute to him – for the first time since taking the reins as Creative Director of the house – Donatella has pulled directly from the archives.
With such an expansive and iconic repertoire to draw from, Donatella showcased not only the versatility but also the timelessness of her late brother’s designs.
In fact, there were so many motifs to pull from – Vogue, Warhol, My Friend Elton, Icons, Baroque, Animalia, Native Americans, Tresor de la Mer, Metal Mesh, and Butterflies – that Donatella practically made a series of mini/capsule collections, touching on each.
Of course, they were remade and reinterpreted to fit the times.
And so they were fashioned into variations on catsuits and corsets, blazers and leggings, high-waisted jeans, blouses…
…you name it, she made it.
If anything, this collection – or series of- was a true attestation to the expansiveness and superstar status that the house has achieved.
And of course, legends of a feather, flock together so the casting of the show has to be mentioned.
Every – and I mean every – top model from Gigi to Kendall, Binx to Vittoria, to Candice to Doutzen appeared on this runway…
And even a few familiar faces….
…Gianni’s original muses closed the show.
Regardless of one’s feelings towards the brand, none can deny it’s longevity and impact that it has had on the industry.
And although celebrating the past, and Gianni’s life and legacy, Donatella shows – and has been showing – that she has the chops to carry this house into the future.
This was quintessential Versace…and love it or hate it, it’s here to stay.
See the rest of the collection here.
Enjoy!
