SS18; Major Moment | Missoni
Missoni describes itself as an Italian, luxury, family-brand – as most admittedly are – committed to colorful knitwear designs.
And, for this season, although the formula remained largely the same, the results were absolutely spectacular.
Maybe it was cause celebration was in the air?
This season, Missoni commemorated 20 years of Angela Missoni at the helm.
And next year, the brand will reach another milestone, – 65 years since its founding!
Maybe it had to do with the location?
The show was held under a beautiful rainbow-silk patchwork canopy commissioned by American artist Rachel Hayes.
Of course, with the sun beating down above, this added dimension to the collection, showcasing the fabrics in various lights, highlighting their transparency and color.
But boy, was this a fun collection!
“Nothing short of effervescent will do…”
The show notes describe the collection as a “celebration of texture, juxtaposition, and layering. Archives reinterpreted in a modern key, transfigured by the spirit of the time, translated and transformed into an eclectic, sophisticated, and festive array of possibilities.”
And trust, the possibilities were endless!
Missoni offered a wide variety of shapes and silhouettes, in a spectrum of colorful prints and pastels.
When they said there’s something here for everyone, they weren’t lying!
Angela and her team sent out a plethora of fun, summery looks, ready for any guy or girl ready to take any and every beach party by storm.
In fact, it’s the first time the house has decided to show menswear and womenswear on the same runway – a move that a few other houses have adopted.
With everything from sheer dresses, leggings, and sparkly, barely-there sweaters, to grandpa cardigans, ribbed vests, and knitted short sleeve shirts for the guys, the house showed it’s diverse technical expertise and just how fresh knits could be.
With garments rendered in graphic, pop-art prints and solid, candy colors, the future of the Missoni brand is definitely looking bright!

Enjoy!
