*SS18; Major Moment | Alexander Wang

***

So it’s the first Major Moment of NYFWSEPT2017 and it belongs to none other than Alexander Wang!

Wang exploded onto the scene a little over a decade ago – he celebrated his label’s tenth anniversary with the Fall17 season – and has enjoyed immense success both in his namesake line and at the helm of Balenciaga, a position he held from 2013-2015.

Known for his exceptional tailoring and being a pioneer for street style, he combines both these strengths producing a cool but classically Wang collection.

Opting out of the traditional runway venue, Wang took his #WangGang around NYC on a party bus that stopped at three different locations around the city, and one-by-one models poured onto the streets of New York.

Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s daughter, made a reappearance – she had debuted the evening before, walking at the Calvin Klein show – but this time opened – quite the honor to be honest what was dubbed #WANGFEST.

With a taste for the urban, Wang’s choice for this type of pop-up, guerrilla showcase was perfect for this collection. There was a noted energy in this collection – a perfect pairing between the clothing and the presentation.

Wang has flip-flopped from coast-to-coast; his last Spring-Summer collection took root in Cali-life and had a beachy, summer vibe.

This girl, however, is still cool…but purposeful. A girl-on-the-go.
To where though? Wang seems to think she off partying…

The clothes are casually luxe, another staple of Wang’s collections, with ingenuity in the design. He played with denim, an emerging trend in the industry, silk camisoles, slouchy light knits, and as expected, sports bras.
A few pieces are visual tricks [and very smartly executed!]; the layered shorts over leggings are quite clever, and the “wrap-sleeve/semi-jacket-esque skirts” are pure perfection…

…cause, of course, which girl wouldn’t want a waist-cinching skirt to flex for the gram?

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!

xx
