*SS17; Major Moment | Alexander McQueen

Traditionally, Spring-Summer collections evoke “tropical” themes for most designers. But not for the McQueen label.

Sarah Burton had her team flown out to the islands…but not the kind you imagine.

For this collection, Burton’s creation stemmed from the Shetland Islands in Scotland.

Rugged terrain and rolling hills – think Shetland Pony, served as the starting point for design.

I mean, what is more inherently British than undulating countryside and picturesque seaside landscape, complete with crashing waves.

McQueen has always been a darkly romantic label, and this collection is absolutely no different.

Knitted dresses, embroidered flowers and plaid were coupled with some harder leather elements.

Leather and lace? Ruffles, bodices and the likes…

Definitely adds a little edge – as expected from the McQueen woman.

And of course, there’s fantasy.

But you don’t have to look far to find that…

Just take a peek at the last few gowns. Extraordinary.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!
