*SS17; Major Moment | Thom Browne
Hello my lovelies,
Who’s ready for some gorgeous clothing to get them all perked up on this lazy Sunday?
Now for those of you who don’t know Thom Browne, he’s an American designer known for his whimsical and theatrical approach to fashion, as well as for his impeccable tailoring.
In recent years, Browne has begun putting his models in more masculine elements; blazers, trousers and such.
This collection? Slightly similar…with a fun play on the idea….
For Spring, Browne’s set, also renowned for its extravagance, resembled the interior of a pool with multicolor tiles lining the walls.
It definitely seems as though “swimming” is in for 2017, as this isn’t the only collection this NYFW to heavily feature the theme… (see Baja East, Altuzzara, Anna Sui, Diane von Fustenberg) with a lot of the Euro collections (coming up) also showing some swimwear type pieces.
Browne’s army of models made their entrance all at once, cloaked in some sizable, floral themed coats and matching shower caps.
They lined up, simultaneously striped down, and stomped the runway showing off Browne’s artistic creations.
Each piece tailored with such craftsmanship to create a trompe l’oeil effect, used to give the illusion of a layered suit.
I mean, the amount of work that went not only into each piece, but also the entire production of the show, is evident.
Vogue described the presentation as if “Noah’s Ark had been a luxury cruise, or if the upper-class housewives photographed by Slim Aarons had been attended by avian cabana boys,” and boy weren’t they kidding!
Browne’s imagination and playful fantasy is a breath of fresh air in what can sometimes be a stuffy and stone-faced industry. It’s is always refreshing to see some designers still having fun with the artistic side…and not taking themselves too seriously.
See the rest of the collection here.
Enjoy!
xx
