SS21; Major Moment | Simone Rocha | LOOKBOOK

“Sobering and exploding, pragmatic and foreboding.”

These were the words that Simone Rocha scribbled in her notepad at the inception of this collection.

The designer, like many other creatives, really trying to make sense of the current time.

And, like many others, sought to turn away from reality, and design based on fantasy.

So, that’s just what she did!

Rocha inspiration came in the form of Richard Prince’s erotic Bettie Kline images and paintings of Nell Gwyn, Charles II mistress.

The result? Scalloped edges, rounded necklines, curved hips, and gilded bodices all done up in various blacks and whites and beiges, embellished with bows and pearls, now a signature for the designer.

It was all very sweetly mature, romantic, and English.

And of course, was very transportive, especially with little inscribed castles and messages, providing the escapism that we all so tremendously desire in the midst of a pandemic.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!
