*SS17; Major Moment | Rodarte

Hello darlings,

We’ve reached R!! *excitement*

And of course, R is for Rodarte!

I’ve spoken about the consistency of Proenza Schouler, but these girls have regularly delivered darkly romantic collections.

In fact they have become one a favorite label of mine and I often anticipate their presentation each fashion week.

*Disclaimer: If I was a girl, I’d DEFINITELY be wearing Rodarte.*

This year’s collection is pure, pure genius!

The Mulleavy sisters were inspired by bees!

Maybe it’s a trend thing, with all the media coverage of Queen Bey…

…or maybe it’s a Rodarte thing.

The girls love creating a “sad, but pretty” girl.

And, I guess in a very abstract way, one can see the bee comparison.

There is an obvious beauty in what it does, with it’s vibrant colors as it pollinates flowers (very springtime) and creates honey.

However, there is still a danger to them which the sisters wanted to remain present.

Even makeup artist for the show, James Kaliardos, actually describes the look as very “you can look but don’t touch,” and slightly intimidating.

The girls used their fashion savvy to create multilayered looks featuring lace and tulle – to mimic honeycombs – and large safety pins – for stinger effect.

Flowers were of course prominent (as is expected for a number of Spring collections), but this was a fresh take on it.

I believe one mark of successful creatives is that they can find innovative ways of approaching a seemingly overworked topic, and these sisters do just that…

…every.single.time.

Lots to choose from here darlings.

Whether it’s soft and pretty you want, or strong and confident, this is a standout collection sure to be scooped up by fashionistas everywhere in the Spring.

See the rest of the collection here.

Enjoy!

xx
