*SS16; Major Moment | Rodarte

Hello darlings,

Here is an absolutely MAJOR moment from the NYFW SS16 shows.

These sisters, Laura and Kate Mulleavy – known collectively as Rodarte, have become a pair of my favorite designers.

These girls, with combined English Lit and Art History degrees between them, season-after-season definitely keep churning out some of the most gorgeously crafted clothing I have seen…

…and this season is no different!

The sisters admitted to “looking backward to move forward,” spending the summer reading poetry and listening to early English rock. Maybe that accounts for the Victorian-esque, disco vibe concurrent throughout the collection?

It is actually interesting to me that, for a Spring-Summer collection, the collection felt very “ice-princess.” It could’ve been the glitzy jumpsuits, heavier coats or sparkly, appliquéd dresses…but I’m not complaining.

If it’s one thing these sisters are good at, it is maintaining the art of dressmaking. Everything from lace to velvet, ruffles and embroidery; is there anything these girls didn’t think about?

A fully realized and cohesive collection – maybe I should spend some time immersed in summer reading?

Rodarte deserves all the accolades they receive…and this collection dispels any question about that.

Enjoy!

See the rest of the collection here.

xx
